It's spooky season!  Halloween fun at the library for all ages! Featuring Halloween ComicFest and so much more!It's spooky season! We've got Halloween fun for everyone at the library, from bat boxes to Batman! Take a look at our programs below or download our Halloween events flyer.

FOR ALL AGES

Halloween ComicFest. Drawn to Comics (5801 W. Glendale Ave.), downtown Glendale's source for comic books, gaming, and collectibles, is teaming up with the library once again to treat you to a spooktacular all-ages Halloween celebration! Choose from an assortment of free comics, meet local comic book artists, shop with cool vendors, pose with your favorite cosplay characters, and enjoy fun games and crafts. Costumes are encouraged. Activities will take place at the Velma Teague Library and at the Drawn to Comics store located across the street. Saturday, October 28, 5-8 PM. Velma Teague Library & Drawn to Comics.


FOR ADULTS

Spooky Rock Painting Artistry Workshop. Pumpkins, ghosts, bats and owls are the perfect fit for your little rock palette. All supplies will be provided. Participants must be 18 or over to register. Monday, October 2, 6-7:30 PM. Main Library Large Meeting Room. Register for Spooky Rock Painting Artistry Workshop.

Talking to the Dead: A Look at Victorian Mourning Customs. Spend a night with the Victorian macabre and learn about mourning customs, séances and their obsession with talking to the other side. Flitter Mouse Traveling Museum will present original artifacts to make you feel as though you have taken a step back in time. From mourning jewelry to spirit photography, you will take a ride through the eerie bits of the era obsessed with death and the afterlife. Dressing up is encouraged. Ouija boards will be present. Thursday, October 19, 6:30-7:30 PM. Main Library Auditorium.


FOR TEENS

Monster Mugshots! Test your knowledge of movie monsters and cryptids by identifying the creatures featured on the Teen Zone bulletin board. Write your guesses on the official entry form and submit it at the library service desk. Submissions with the correct answers will be entered into a drawing to receive a skateboard prize pack! Ages 12-18. Monday, October 2 through Tuesday, October 31. Velma Teague Library. Teen Zone.

† Bat Boxes for Tweens & Teens. Kick off the fall season by assembling and decorating your very own bat box! Learn about these amazing animals and build them a safe place to rest. Ages 10-18. † Teen STEAM Lab: Build a Ghost Detector! Detect invisible physical fields and substances with your own ghost meter! Explore the physics of conductivity, discover how semiconductors work, and learn what it takes to be a ghost hunter. Ages 12-18. Registration is required. Thursday, October 12, 5:30-7 PM. † Zombie LARP XII: One Night at the Library. Zombies? AGAIN?! After the donation of pizza-stained animatronic repair guides, the library's been overrun by free-roaming zombies and we need YOUR help. Show up as a zombie, an animatronic, or even a night security guard to help us stop this year's zombie apocalypse and learn a little about animatronics and BRAINS! Mayhem is limited to ages 12-18 only. Registration is required. Friday, October 27, 6:30-8:30 PM. Main Library. Register for Zombie LARP XII: One Night at the Library.

FOR KIDS AND FAMILIES

† STEAM Kids Club. Kids aged 6-12 can get creative with a Halloween flair every week! Registration is limited to the first 25 children. Wednesdays, 1:30-2:30 PM. Heroes Regional Park Library Yucca Room.
  • October 4: Spooky Tangrams. Discover the magic of math and the secrets of shapes by making art. Register for Spooky Tangrams.
  • October 11: Assembling Skeletons. Explore the “bone-chilling” mysteries of the human body. Register for Assembling Skeletons.
  • October 18: DIY Oni Masks. Create a monstrous Japanese mask while discovering its cultural heritage. Register for DIY Oni Masks.
  • October 25: Haunting Paper Lanterns. Craft eerie paper lanterns while investigating the impact of light sources on historic societies. Register for Haunting Paper Lanterns.
Ghost Scavenger Hunt! Kids and their families can join the hunt for seven lost ghosts that are haunting the library! Pick up a clue sheet at the library service desk and search for the ghosts on your own or with your family as a team. When you have located all the ghosts, return to the service desk to claim a special prize! Monday, October 9 through Tuesday, October 31. Velma Teague Library Youth Department.

Crafty Kids: Haunted Snow Globe & More! We’ll supply the materials for kids aged 5-11 to make their own “slightly” haunted snow globe or other Halloween crafts! Space is limited; first come, first served. Thursday, October 12, 4-5 PM. Main Library Storytime Room.

† Full STEAM Ahead: Spooky Spiderweb Art. Show off your painting skills as you learn about using negative space in art. Create a spooky spiderweb of your own, just in time for Halloween! Registration is required. Thursday, October 12, 6:30-7:30 PM. Velma Teague Library Meeting Room. Register for Spooky Spiderweb Art.

Wild Wednesday: Halloween Minute-to-Win-It. Prepare to laugh! Take on silly challenges and games using a quirky assortment of Halloween essentials — spiders, ghosts, monsters, etc. Not-so-scary costumes are welcome! Ages 5-11. Wednesday, October 18, 2-3 PM. Main Library Storytime Room.

Not "Beary" Scary. We're looking forward to seeing preschoolers, toddlers, and their caregivers join us for not “beary” scary games, crafts, and a short storytime! Come in costume if you'd like! Thursday, October 26, 10:30-11:30 AM. Main Library Youth Department.

† Owls, Creatures of the Night. Step into the amazing world of owls. Examine bones in owl pellets, learn about silent flight, and find out if owls can really turn their heads in a full circle! Ages 5-11. Thursday, October 26, 4-5 PM. Main Library Storytime Room.

Boo Bash! Celebrate the Halloween season with some spooktacular fun! Come dressed in your Halloween best and take part in games and crafts the whole family can enjoy. Monday, October 30, 4-5 PM. Foothills Library Youth Department & Patio.
